Your diet affects your teeth..
Find out how your diet impacts your teeth
The foods you choose to eat and how often you eat them can affect your general health as well as the health of your gums and teeth. Tooth decay occurs when plaque comes into contact with sugar in the mouth which causing acid to attack your teeth. Food that contains sugars of any kind can contribute to tooth decay.
Calcium-rich foods
Such as low-fat or fat free milk, yogurt, cheese, tofu, canned salmon, almonds and dark green leafy vegetables help promote strong teeth and bones.
Phosphorus

Vitamin C
This vitamin helps to promote the health of your gums, so by eating plenty of citrus fruits, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, potatoes and spinach will ensure you improve the health of your gums.
Smart snacking
If you find yourself snacking frequently, it is best to avoid sugary treats such as hard or sticky candy and instead of this opt for nutritious choices such as raw vegetables, fruits, plain yogurts and popcorn.
We recommend that sugary drinks are only drank alongside your meals and you stick to water in between.
It is important that we include all the above foods in our diet to keep a healthy diet to ensure we are caring for our teeth to avoid cavities and further treatment.
See below for a child's diet recommendations.
Caring for a baby?
Avoid pacifying your infant, toddler or young child with a bottle of juice, formula or milk. Sucking on the bottles bathes the teeth and gums in liquid which can contribute to tooth decay.
It is best to avoid sugar from an early age and use a acid neutralising toothpaste for children between the ages of 3 - 6 years.
There are plenty of nourishing and delicious snack options available for our little ones. Do not forget to limit the number of snacks during the day. Frequent snacking can lead to dental health problems just as much as a sugary or high-starch diet.
Make wise food choices as part of a daily dental care routine for kids. Eating a balanced diet, flossing and brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste can prevent cavities. Set up regular dental appointments for your kids and rest assured that you are doing a great job taking care of those precious smiles!
